ActiveMath Group at University of Saarland and at German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) is working in several projects for an intelligent (adaptive) learning environment for mathematics. see http://www.activemath.org, www.leactivemath.org. Some of the challenges here are: Web-presentation of mathematics, adaptive course generation, learner modeling - including what to model in the first place, diagnosis and updating of learner model, open learner modeling, context modeling, interactive exercises with feedback strategies and/or tutorial dialogues, diagnoses for exercises, authoring tools, etc.
